Terms of Service
Last updated October 15, 2026
The short version
labor.dog is software for verified union locals. Your local owns its data and is responsible for how it uses it — who it messages, what it publishes, and how it runs its meetings and elections. We provide the tools, keep them secure, and never sell your data. The tools are provided as they are, our liability is limited, and these terms are the full agreement; this summary is just for orientation.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between Keogan Industries LLC, which operates labor.dog ("labor.dog", "we", "us"), and the union local that uses labor.dog together with every person who signs in to it. Please read them. By creating an account, accepting an invitation, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The agreement
If you accept these Terms on behalf of a union local, you confirm that you have the authority to bind that local, and "you" includes the local. Individual members and staff who use the Service through their local agree to the parts of these Terms that apply to users (accounts, acceptable use, messaging and AI features). A separate written agreement signed by both us and your local takes priority over these Terms where the two conflict.
Definitions
- Service: the labor.dog web application, its mobile apps, its API, union websites we host, and related support.
- Local or customer: the union local (or other labor organization) that holds a labor.dog account.
- Administrator: a person your local has given administrative permissions in the Service.
- User: anyone who signs in to your local's account, including officers, staff, stewards and members.
- Customer Data: everything your local or its users put into the Service, such as rosters, documents, messages, grievances, payroll and dues records, survey answers, ballots, website content and recordings.
- Union website: a public website your local builds and publishes with the Service.
- Credits: the prepaid units the Service uses to measure email, text messaging, AI and storage use.
Eligibility and accounts
The Service is offered to labor organizations by invitation, with a focus on fire and police locals. We may verify your local's identity and affiliation at any time and may decline or close an account we cannot verify. Users must be at least 18 years old. The Service is not directed to children.
You must give accurate information and keep it current. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure, for turning on two-factor authentication where your local requires it, and for everything done under your account. Tell us right away at support@labor.dog if you suspect someone has accessed your account without permission.
Your local’s responsibilities
Your local decides what information it puts into the Service, whose information it is, who can see it, and what it is used for. Your local is responsible for:
- Having the right to collect and use the personal information it adds, and giving its members any notices the law or its own bylaws require;
- Choosing who gets which permissions, and removing access promptly when someone leaves a role;
- The accuracy of its records, including rosters, payroll entries, dues balances and meeting minutes;
- Getting the consents the law requires before it emails, texts or records anyone (see Email and text messaging and Meeting notetaker);
- Responding to its members' requests about their personal information. We will help as described in our Privacy Policy.
Acceptable use
Use the Service only for lawful purposes connected with running your local. You may not, and may not let anyone else:
- Break any law or regulation, or infringe anyone's rights, including privacy, intellectual property and labor law;
- Impersonate another local, person or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation;
- Send spam, or email or text people who have not agreed to receive messages where the law requires agreement;
- Upload or publish content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, sexually exploitative, or that promotes violence;
- Upload malware, or try to run your own code in the Service or on a union website beyond the features we provide;
- Probe, scan, overload or disrupt the Service, or access accounts, data or systems you are not authorized to use;
- Use the Service to build a competing product, or copy, resell, sublicense or reverse engineer it, except where the law expressly allows it;
- Use automated access (including AI agents and API keys) outside the permissions and rate limits we provide.
We may remove content or limit features that break these rules, and we may report unlawful activity to the authorities.
Your data
Your local owns its Customer Data. You give us a limited licence to host, copy, process, transmit and display Customer Data only as needed to provide, secure and support the Service for your local, to follow your instructions, and to meet our legal obligations. We do not sell Customer Data, we do not use it to advertise, and we do not use it or allow our AI providers to use it to train AI models.
We may use information about how the Service performs and is used, with the people and locals removed (for example, error rates or how often a feature is used), to run and improve the Service.
You can export your data while your account is active. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information, how long we keep it, and who helps us process it.
Union websites
Your local is the publisher of its union website and is responsible for everything on it, including text, photos, documents, forms, embedded third-party content, and any personal information it chooses to show. Make sure you have the rights to what you publish, and remove information people ask you to remove where the law requires it.
We host union websites on labor.dog addresses or on a domain your local connects. We apply security rules to what a website can contain. For example, sites cannot run their own scripts, and we may refuse or remove content that breaks these rules. Content that visitors submit through a website's forms is Customer Data of the local that owns the site.
Copyright complaints
If you believe content on a union website or elsewhere in the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to support@labor.dog that includes: your contact details; the work you believe is infringed; the exact page or file that infringes it; a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the owner, its agent or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature. We will respond to valid notices, which may include removing the content and telling the local that published it. The local may send a counter-notice to the same address. We may close the accounts of repeat infringers.
Email and text messaging
The Service lets your local email and text its members. Your local is the sender of those messages and is responsible for their content and for following the laws that apply to them, including the CAN-SPAM Act and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. We provide unsubscribe links and handle STOP replies, but your local must not message people who have opted out.
Email campaigns may be sent from your local's own verified domain, or from a labor.dog sending address on your local's behalf. To protect delivery for every local, we may pause a local's campaign sending automatically if too many recipients mark its messages as spam, and we may limit or suspend messaging that we reasonably believe is unlawful or abusive. Messages about your account and security (such as sign-in codes and voting credentials) are sent by us.
SMS / Text Messaging Program
Union locals using the Service may send text messages (SMS) to their members. The following terms apply to all text messages sent through the Service:
- Program description: Members of a union local receive recurring text messages from their local about union business, including meeting notices, votes, elections, events, alerts and reminders.
- Consent: Members opt in themselves from their account in their local's labor.dog member portal or mobile app by ticking an unchecked text-alerts box next to their mobile number, where this program's disclosure is shown. We then send one text asking them to reply YES, and only members who reply YES receive messages. A member's number being on file with their local is not consent. Consent is not a condition of membership or of any purchase.
- Message frequency: Message frequency varies depending on the local's communications.
- Cost: Message and data rates may apply. These charges are billed by the recipient's mobile carrier and are the recipient's responsibility.
- Opt-out: Recipients can cancel at any time by replying STOP to any message, or by turning text alerts off in their profile. After replying STOP, no further messages will be sent unless the recipient re-subscribes by replying START.
- Help: Recipients can reply HELP to any message for assistance, or contact support@labor.dog.
- Carriers: Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is subject to carrier availability. Supported carriers may change without notice.
- Privacy: No mobile information or opt-in data is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Voting and elections
The Service provides tools for nominations, ballots, voting, tallying and record keeping. Your local and its election committee run its elections, not labor.dog. Your local is responsible for deciding whether to use the Service for a particular vote, for setting it up correctly, for following its constitution and bylaws and any law that applies (including the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act, where it applies), for resolving protests and challenges, and for certifying results.
The Service is designed so that a voter's identity is kept separate from how they voted: ballots are stored without any link to the voter, and election activity is recorded in a tamper-evident audit log. Vote-confirmation emails say only that a vote was recorded, never how. We do not guarantee that using the Service will make an election valid, or that any election will be free of challenge. Run a test election before relying on the Service for a binding vote.
AI features
The Service includes optional AI-assisted features, such as an assistant, document analysis, draft writing, meeting suggestions and a website builder. AI output can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. It is provided to assist you, it is not legal, financial or professional advice, and a qualified person at your local should review it before you rely on it, publish it, or use it for grievances, negotiations, elections or any other binding decision. Your local is responsible for what it does with AI output.
To provide these features, the text, documents or images involved are sent to the AI providers listed in our Privacy Policy, through a gateway configured to use only providers that do not keep or train on that data. AI use is metered and charged in US dollars.
Meeting notetaker
If your local uses the meeting notetaker, a bot named "labor.dog Notetaker" joins your online meeting, records the audio, and produces a transcript and suggestions. Many places require the consent of everyone on a call before it is recorded. Your local is responsible for telling participants about the recording and getting any consent the law requires before it starts the notetaker, and for deciding how long transcripts are kept within the limits the Service offers.
Dues and online payments
If your local collects dues or other payments online, the payments are processed by Stripe into your local's own Stripe account. Your local, not labor.dog, is the seller and recipient of those payments, and its relationship with Stripe is governed by Stripe's own agreements. We charge a platform fee on each online payment, shown in the Service (currently 1.5% of the payment), in addition to Stripe's own fees. Refunds, disputes and chargebacks are handled by your local through its Stripe account. Your local is responsible for its dues rules, the accuracy of the dues records it keeps in the Service, and any authorizations its members sign, including for political contributions.
Fees, usage balance and billing
- Subscription: the Service is billed per seat, monthly or annually, at the prices shown on our website and in your billing settings, subject to a minimum. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled.
- Usage balance: seats are billed separately from usage. Your local adds US dollars to a prepaid balance in the web app, and usage charges are deducted from it. There are no monthly grants, resets or expiry. Remaining value from the previous credit system is preserved. Purchases are not available inside the mobile apps.
- Payment: you authorize us, through our payment processor, to charge the payment method on file for all fees and applicable taxes. Fees do not include taxes, which you are responsible for.
- No refunds: except where the law requires otherwise, fees and prepaid funds are non-refundable, and seat reductions take effect at the next billing period.
- Non-payment: if a payment fails, paid features may stop until the balance is paid.
- Price changes: we will give you at least 30 days' notice of a price increase before it applies to your local.
Third-party services
The Service works with services operated by others, such as Google and Apple sign-in, Stripe, video-meeting platforms, and content your local embeds in its website. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.
Preview features
We may offer features labelled beta, preview or early access. They may change or be withdrawn at any time, may be less reliable than the rest of the Service, and are provided without any commitment.
Changes and availability
We continually improve the Service and may add, change or remove features. We aim to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, timely or error-free, and we may take it down for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We will try to give notice of planned changes that significantly reduce what the Service does for your local.
Suspension and termination
Your local may cancel at any time from its billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We may suspend or end access to all or part of the Service, with notice where practical, if you break these Terms, do not pay, cannot be verified, or if continuing would create a legal, security or deliverability risk to us, other locals or the public.
For 30 days after an account ends, your local may ask us for a copy of its Customer Data, and we will send it a .zip file containing all of its data. After that window, we delete Customer Data as described in our Privacy Policy, except where we must keep it by law. The sections on your data, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, disputes and general terms survive the end of this agreement.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement, and any warranty that the Service, its AI output, or any election, payroll, dues or other record will be accurate, complete, lawful or error-free.
labor.dog is a software provider. We are not a law firm, an accountant, an election authority or a labor relations adviser, and nothing in the Service is legal or professional advice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither party will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, goodwill or data, even if advised of the possibility. Our total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms is limited to the greater of the fees your local paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or one hundred US dollars (US $100).
These limits do not apply where the law does not allow them, or to your local's payment obligations or indemnification obligations.
Indemnification
Your local will defend and indemnify labor.dog and its owners, employees and contractors against any claims, damages, fines, costs and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Customer Data, your union website, messages your local sends, the way your local conducts its meetings, elections, recordings, dues collection or payroll, or your local's or its users' breach of these Terms or of the law.
Disputes and governing law
If a dispute arises, contact us first at support@labor.dog, and we will both try in good faith to resolve it informally within 30 days.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Nevada, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that is not resolved informally will be brought only in the state or federal courts located in Washoe County, Nevada, and both parties consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. Claims must be brought individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in a class, collective or representative action.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will tell your local's administrators by email or in the Service at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless the change is required by law sooner. The date at the top shows when the Terms last changed. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms; if you do not agree, you may cancel.
General
- Entire agreement: these Terms, the Privacy Policy and any order or written agreement between us are the whole agreement about the Service.
- Severability: if any part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect, and the unenforceable part is limited as little as possible.
- No waiver: not enforcing a right is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment: your local may not transfer these Terms without our written consent. We may transfer them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, with notice.
- Force majeure: neither party is responsible for delays caused by events beyond its reasonable control, other than payment obligations.
- Independent parties: nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, agency or employment relationship.
- Notices: we send notices to your local's administrators by email or in the Service. Legal notices to us must be sent by email to support@labor.dog. A notice sent by email is effective when it is sent, unless the sender receives a message that it could not be delivered.
